Roberto Chabet - Philippine Conceptual Art

 

 Roberto Chabet (1937–2013) was a renowned Filipino conceptual artist, teacher, and curator, who played a key role in the development of Philippine contemporary art. Through his expanded art practice, he supported and nurtured the artistic development of several generations of Filipino artists, from his contemporaries in the 1960s and 1970s to his numerous students at the University of the Philippines College of Fine Arts.
He is highly regarded for his experimental works, ranging from sculptures and installations made from everyday and found materials, to paintings, drawings and collages. He was the founding Museum Director of the Cultural Center of the Philippines (CCP) from 1967–70 and subsequently led the alternative artist group Shop 6. He taught for more than thirty years at the University of the Philippines while continuing to be involved with artist-run spaces in Manila. Chabet’s sculptures often drew on and extended conceptual ideas of relational and serial structures, using materials such as plywood for their association with the rebuilding of Manila after it was bombed at the end of World War Two, and implicating the body of the viewer into an experience of the work in space.

 

Jennifer Wynne Reeves

Jennifer Wynne Reeves (1963– 2014) was an internationally exhibited American painter.
"Reeves is known for creating a body of paintings, drawings and photographs that speak to and confront formalist and humanist dilemmas. But beyond her reputation and achievements in the art world, Reeves enjoyed a considerable fan-base as a result of her astonishing Facebook presence where she chronicled and interwove her art and diaristic prose, living her life out loud, inviting her followers to take pieces of her and receive inspiration.
For better or worse Reeves was a painter’s painter. While she achieved a great measure of commercial success in her too abbreviated life, Reeves was best known and respected by artists who recognized her powerful skills of blending painterly style and manipulating materials in an alarmingly appealing way, avoiding the pitfalls that push abstraction against representation. Eugeniusz Geno Małkowski

Eugeniusz Geno Małkowski ( 1942 – 2016) was a Polish painter. Małkowski was a professor of contemporary art at the University of Warmia and Mazury in Olsztyn, founder of artistic groups and associations throughout Poland, organizer of modern art exhibitions, and popularizer of art. He was known for his speed painting happenings in which he invited people to paint together. In 2005, in Bełchatów, he beat the Guinness World Record for the 24-hour-long-painting performance.In the 1980s he introduced figurative elements and started experimenting with space division of art work Furthermore, he implemented collage techniques mixing them up with graffiti  In the 1990s he abandoned tapping replacing it with so-called speed painting techniques. He became closer to the basis of abstract expressionism reproducing persons or situations in a spontaneous, automatic and almost subconscious way. In the first decade of the 21st century he moved back to the graffiti technique superposing multicolor stencils of human shapes on monochromatic background  In 2010 in Olsztyn he exhibited a series of 44 female nudes painted in several short sessions mixing up speed painting and realistic techniques. Simon Sparrow - American Folk Artist

Simon Sparrow (1925-2000) was an American folk artist, a painter and mixed media artist who was born in West Africa and grew up in North Carolina on a Cherokee Reservation. He was a self-taught artist and received a Wisconsin Visual Art Lifetime Achievement Award (WVALAA) in 2012.Sparrow's work is considered folk art and his piece Assemblage with Found Objects is held by the Smithsonian American Art Museum on the 3rd Floor, Luce Foundation Center.
Simon Sparrow began creating art at age seven and also began his practice of informal and street preaching in his youth. He moved to Philadelphia and enlisted in the army in 1942. He later moved to New York before settling in Madison, Wisconsin.
Sparrow is best known for his mixed media constructions and paintings, which he began creating once he moved to Madison, Wisconsin in the 1970s. One of his pieces, "Simon Sparrow Outsider Art Picture, ca. 1980" was appraised on Antiques Roadshow in July 2009 for $6,000-8,000. On 20 May 2012, Sparrow was posthumously awarded a WVALAA along with 13 other honorees.Wikipedia
